Network marketing is the vehicle that has enabled countless numbers to enter the ranks of business owners. Multi-millionaire finance gurus like Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump advocate network marketing as the best vehicle for the common man to get started in their own business.
But the question I am pondering in this post is this… “Is network marketing right for you?” Here are some checklists to ponder.
Network Marketing Checklist – The Product
The first thing, perhaps, is to consider where your interest lies. I have seen companies that sell everything from health foods to chocolate to everything in between. I have seen companies that market digital products and services… I have even seen companies where their product is their opportunity itself.
So the product is important when you consider these 2 points: First, you must believe in what you are marketing. You’re probably NOT going to do well in a dog food business if you hate dogs, right? Second, the company must offer a quality product and stand behind it.
Network Marketing Checklist – The Company
As I said before, there are a ton of network marketing opportunities out there… so pick wisely. For a newbie, I believe that it is better to work with an established company that is going to be around for years. I personally lost over 30 downline members in a company that went belly-up just after 18 months. The compensation plan is also important… but maybe not as much as the company’s longevity.
Network Marketing Checklist – The People
OK, here is where the rubber meets the road… the people. Do some research. Once you have settled on a company and their products, find an upline that has a great performance record… great sponsors are gold. Another thing that is most important is the training platform for new distributors… maybe not so much for you, but for the new reps you bring in.
Network Marketing Checklist – YOU
OK, now we’re down to the most important factor in your network marketing success… YOU. Everything revolves around you and your ability to market and relate to people. Zig Ziglar once said “You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.” Get your eyes off of yourself, and help others… either by meeting needs with the product you are marketing, or by helping others reach their success goals.
Zig also said “Building a better you is the first step to building a better America”… or world, for that matter.
Network Marketing Checklist – The Question
So we’re back to the original premise… is network marketing right for you? Are you willing to put in the work to market your opportunity and products? Are you willing to become a better YOU, and thereby a better sponsor, recruiter, and business leader? Only you can answer that.
